Samantha Rathe,
LMSW
Hi, I’m Sam, a communications professional-turned-psychotherapist who specializes in working with adolescents who are navigating the complexities of entering adulthood, as well as young adults beginning to reflect on their upbringing and how it impacts them today. I work with individuals and families to help them get to the next place in life, and with a sense of peace.
I believe the relationship you have with your therapist is the most powerful therapeutic tool of all, and is what makes therapy work. I deeply value and believe you are the expert of your own self, and I thoroughly enjoy learning about what brought you to where you are today. I operate from a person-centered (it’s about YOU), strengths-based (you have innate strengths to build the life you want) framework. I pull from different therapeutic techniques to support people struggling with symptoms of anxiety, depression, and trauma. I have experience working with everyone from trans youth to people living with severe mental illness. I have worked in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and private psychotherapy. We might work well together if you like to laugh, prefer a laidback therapy environment, and a therapist who’s direct and uses the occasional swear word. If you ask a question about me and my life, I will likely answer you (I might still ask, “what makes you wonder?” in traditional therapy parlance). If you ask my opinion, and I have one, I will also likely give it (and, definitely if I think it will help our work).
When I’m not in sessions, I’m spending time with my family, three cats, and in my own therapy (yes, therapists should have their own therapist!). I believe the reason we are here is to connect, and I’m looking forward to connecting with you and being a part of your life as we work collaboratively to usher in the corrective experience (positive change) you came to therapy to create.
